CMRF Priorities for Research Grants
The Foundation considers proposals for research in all areas of medicine, health care, health promotion and community health. The vision of the Canterbury Medical Research Foundation is to advance the quality of health care by fostering the strength and excellence of health research in Canterbury.
Host Institutions
All applications must be supported by suitable host institutions in Canterbury. These include Canterbury University, Lincoln University, University of Otago - Christchurch CSM&HS, Canterbury District Health Board, NZ Brain Research Institute (formally the Van der Veer Institute),CPIT and ESR (Christchurch).

Travel Grants & Grants-In-Aid
Are available for selected researchers to attend scientific meetings or visit research laboratories. Limit for individual grants is $2,000. Priority will be given to suitable CMRF project grant researchers to present their work at acceptable scientific meetings. 2011 applications are for travel in 2012. Applications are now open.

Don Beaven Travelling Fellowship
Supports experienced medical researchers from Canterbury to visit research units in NZ or overseas for the purpose of the interchange of information, ideas or skills in their research field or to support a visit to Canterbury from time to time by selected medical research experts to advise or to exchange information, ideas or skills with medical researchers, research units or departments in Canterbury. Duration of awards are normally 1-4 weeks.

Summer Studentships
These Studentships provide $5,000 to individual students to train during the summer break with a research team relevant to the CMRF objectives. Studentships are available to students from host universities carried out under the University of Otago, School of Medicine and University of Canterbury Summer Studentship programme. Duration is usually 10 weeks.

Malvina Major Travelling Fellowship
The purpose of the Fellowship is to support a non-medical graduate working in child health services within Christchurch Hospital to visit a children's hospital on the east coast of Australia, (Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane). The applicant must be working full-time in the field of paediatrics and child health. The Fellowship is for $3,000. Applicants would be expected to work within a children's hospital for a period of two to three weeks.
