Organisers of a health research open day in Christchurch
on Sunday 17th August 2008 had to open the doors early
because of the queues of visitors waiting to tale a peek
behind the scenes.
More than 1000 people went to the Canterbury Medical
Research Foundation and University of Otago, Christchurch
School of Medicine Open Day.
the day featurered interactive displays, talks and tours of
research labs and other faclities. Tours took in the Van
der Veer Institute Labs, the Pathology Museum and the
Cardioendocrine Lab. The Country's only mobile surgical
bus was also on display.
Otago School of Medicine spokesman Ainslei Talbot said
talks by mark Richardds of the Christchurch Cardioendocrine
Research Group, Martin Kennedy of hte Gene Structure and
Function Research Group and Margreet Vissers of the Free
Radical Research Group were popular and fully attended.
"It was a very interactive day. The idea is to make the
point there is alot of strong health research going on in
Christchurch".
