ATHOL MANN LECTURE 2006
Over 200 members of the general public were treated to
a very interesting talk (in laymans terms) at the
Canterbury Medical Research Foundation's annual
Athol Mann Lecture Series held at the Rolleston Lecture
Theatre, Christchurch School of Medicine and Health
Sciences at the Christchurch Public Hospital.
Titled "Brain Research is a must for a healthy Society"
by Professor Graeme Jackson who is the Director of the
Brain Research Institute in Melbourne. Professor
Jackson is internationally recognised as an authority on
new MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) in the field of
Epilepsy. His present research also covers MRI of the
Brain and the mapping of brain functions.

The Canterbury Medical Research Foundation honoured
the contribution Sir Lawrence Govan had given, both as
President (15 years) and now asPatron by awarding an
annual gold medal in his name.
The Sir Lawrence Govan gold medal will continue to be
presented for an outstanding contribution to health
research in Canterbury in years to come.
